Cupping is a treatment used in Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses cups to create suction on the skin to promote healing & detoxification. When suction is created on the skin, it stimulates healing in the local area and deeper into the tissues; enhancing circulation, releasing muscle tension, promoting lymphatic drainage and circulation of qi. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, cupping treatment opens up “meridians” on the body, allowing qi to flow through and stimulate corresponding organ systems. This therapy is effective in relieving pain, and is a good alternative to acupuncture or massage.

What Can I Expect?
For best results, regular treatments can help restore health and prevent conditions from returning. Cupping is very safe and can be done in children & adults. The therapy is very relaxing and most people experience benefits in the first treatment. Some individuals may experience temporary cupping marks or bruises which are generally painless. If marks are a concern for you, inform your ND as the treatment can be modified.
In the clinic we use both soft cupping & regular cupping. All the naturopathic doctors in the clinic have training in cupping & acupuncture. Dr. Leena Athparia, ND has additional training in cupping and has a focus in treating pain and muscular conditions.
